Spotlight Saturday- Roxy’s Story
“It all started with a movement challenge at work where I set a goal to get up and move 20 minutes everyday for 21 days.
I chose to walk, and when I started out it was a struggle just to complete 20 minutes. By the end of the challenge, not only did it change my health, but my outlook on life, too. My body got stronger, but my mental and emotional health grew stronger too. The time I spent moving gave me time to reflect and grow. After the challenge ended, I found myself needing the walks to destress and to process my day. I began with only 20 minutes of walking and by the end of 30 days I was half walking and half running 2 miles a day or more, which led to a 30 lb weight loss over a 6 month period and a totally new outlook on life. I began to make changes beyond exercise, but in my personal life, too. I saw I was worth the effort and time. It was the selfcare I so desperately needed. So, I want to challenge all of you to get up and move. And what better motivation than a marathon that will not only help you, but also supports a worthy cause?
26.2 miles in 30 days may not seem like much (or maybe too much for some of us), but like the 21 days that changed my life, I want to see the same for all of you. Join me in The Food Initiative’s Virtual Marathon and get moving to a better healthier future!”
