‘The complexities behind motherlessness, and redefining what being a mother is.’ *There are multiple factors which may lead to childlessness, be it personal, financial, health-related, religious or environmental. societal pressure to become a parent runs in parallel to the measuring of an individual’s worthiness. London-based obstetrician and gynaecologist, Dr Larisa Corda, adds, “So much of our society is based around the idea of having children and it is generally seen as one of the biggest milestones and achievements of people’s lives.” According to Dr Corda, rather than the term “childless”, which has pejorative and hurtful connotations implying that an individual is somehow less than what should be due to a lack of children, many prefer the term “child-free” instead.
Research has shown that lack of a suitable partner is a common reason for many to postpone their childbearing, potentially leading to permanent childlessness. “[Many] women who are childless desperately wanted to be mothers. They waited too long to try or it took too long to find a suitable partner or there was a medical reason. (I remain open to chance, however, to cross reference SATC star, Kim Cattrall: “There is a way to become a mother in this day and age that doesn't (necessarily) include your name on the child's birth certificate.” So let me see what the universe has in store for me . ed/c.
